Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali has been handed a two-month suspended ban for violating the FA's betting regulations, with 50 breaches reported. Tonali, who arrived at Newcastle from AC Milan for £55m, was initially banned from competitive football until August 2024 due to betting activities in Italy. However, further breaches occurred between August and October 2023, prompting additional charges.

The two-month ban is suspended until the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. If Tonali breaches the rules again, he will face a ban from all football-related activities for that period. However, if he avoids further misconduct, he can return from August 27. Alongside the ban, he has been fined £20,000 and cautioned by the FA regarding his future conduct.

In a statement, Newcastle acknowledged Tonali's extraordinary cooperation during the investigation, highlighting his full admissions and commitment to a therapeutic and educational program supported by the club.

Tonali admitted to placing approximately 40 to 50 bets on football matches, including four bets on Newcastle to win, between August and October 2023. Despite betting on his own team, the FA found no compromise to the integrity of the matches involved. Tonali self-reported the breaches promptly, providing crucial evidence to the investigation. Without his cooperation, the FA stated that they would not have had a case against him.
